Play N’ Go recently announced the release of a new video pokie game to be added to their collection, Hugo. Today we have a chance to try it out for real play as it was released live over the Play N’ Go network. The name is sure to sound familiar to many players as Hugo was the main star of a Scandinavian TV show back in the 1990s.
We don’t know how the designers came up with this theme, but it’s great to see the good troll Hugo in action once again, this time on the reels of a videos pokie game. As expected the main symbol of the game is Hugo acting as a wild, while the main villains are Don Croco and the evil witch Afskylia.
They are up to no good once again kidnapping Hugos love, Hugoline, so our brave hero is once again forced to go down deep in the gold mines and save her. The game is designed with the recognizable 10 pay lines, 5 reels and 3 rows, with bets ranging from $0.10 to $100 per spin.
The designers added a great dose of excitement to the game by installing two great bonus rounds. The first is more of a classic click and pick bonus, called Gold Mine Treasure. Once 3 bonus symbols (Golden Treasure Chest) land on the reels you will have to guide Hugo through several doors to the chamber of treasures.
But if you choose a door where Don Croco is hiding our hero will immediately be kicked out of the mine. The free spins bonus is triggered by 3 or more scatters (Afskylia) on the reels, awarding 5, 10 or 15 free spins.
With each set of free spins comes an extra scatter symbol (Hugoline) payout. The bigger the number of free spins chosen is, the smaller the extra scatter payout.
What We love
We love the game theme and the cartoon look the pokie has. Hugo was a favorite hero for many of us at that time and it’s great to see him again.
The animations and visual effects are great and we love the animations with Hugo and his dialogue on the reels. We love the free spins bonus round concept with the extra scatter payout. It’s great that the extra scatter can come stacked across all reels and that the free spins can be re-triggered.
What we Do not Like
Play N’ Go managed to create another great video pokie game with Hugo in the focus and we don’t think anything needs to be changed. Hugo is a perfect pokie game the way it is.
It’s great to see another new video pokie game from Play N’ Go and the high level of quality it has. Hugo has great visual effects and excellent bonus features.
It’s a great game to play as base play payouts are small to medium and with two bonus features you have a chance to increase your balance pretty fast.
The stacked extra scatters during the free spins are an excellent addition and you can win big in at least one free spin with a full screen of extra stacked scatters.
