Finding new trading routes to foreign, unexplored countries has been a mission of many brave individuals for as long as we can remember. Being the first to discover new land, beside the benefits of exclusivity, was a sure way to earn a place in world history and many centuries later your footsteps can be relived on the reels of a slot machine.
Not quite the best way to pay tribute for someone’s deeds, but considering the big number of online gamblers today, it’s a great way to be remembered. Golden Caravan shows us the travels of Marco Polo to the Indies and all the adventures he had along the way. Simple in design and visual appearance, but packed with potential to payout big amounts of money.
Developers
The company behind this video slot game is Play ‘N Go. This is a fairly known software provider with a big number of decent slot games which are fun to play. Usually their games are low to mid variance, but from time to time they launch a new high variance game like Golden Caravan.
How to Play
If you compare this game to the rest of the Play ‘N Go slots collection, you will see that it is much simpler in design. There are only 10 active pay lines and their number can be adjusted from 1 to 10.
The bet level goes as low as $0.10 per spin up to a high $50 per spin. After you adjust the bet level all that is left is to hit the spin button or use the auto play option for longer sessions.
Special Features
At first look this game is pretty much the same as any other standard Play ‘N Go video slot. The main symbols in the game are the Wild and the Scatter with their basic functions. The Wild substitutes for all symbols in a winning combination, except for the scatter, and the scatter symbol triggers the free spins bonus round.
The scatter symbol can land only on reels 1, 3 and 5 and awards 10 free spins with a x 2 multiplier, if all 3 of them land at the same time. Now what’s interesting in this game is the bonus round itself. The scatter symbol also acts as an extra wild during the bonus round which reminds us a lot of standard Novamatic slot games. Maybe Play ‘N Go just wanted to borrow a few details from the competition, but Golden Caravan definitely looks like a Novamatic clone game.
During the bonus round another set of 3 scatter symbols will re-trigger the free spins and award an extra multiplier. The downside is that the extra free spins aren’t added to the already awarded number, but are reset to the starting 10. This way with each retrigger the bonus starts again but with an increased multiplier. The bonus ends when there are no more free spins and you are returned to base play.
Maximums Payout
Play ‘N Go promotes a maximum Wild coin payout of 250,000 coins. If you look at the pay table you will see that 5 wilds on a winning pay line award 5,000 coins, so it seems a bit odd that the maximum payout value is so high. We know for sure that the Wilds don’t come stacked so you can only land 5 of them on a winning pay line.
The maximum payout could only achieved if the multiplier is very high, or if you hit a big number of full wild wins. Either way Golden Caravan seems like a game which has the potential to award massive winnings and just like in any other slot game all you need is a little luck.
Summary
If you look at the overall game design and the symbols payout, Golden Caravan definitely deserves a chance to prove itself. We had that pleasure to try the game for real and we were very surprised by the results. Base play winnings are quite often, ranging from small to medium and the bonus round seems very easy to trigger. The highest multiplier value we got was only x 4 awarding a 70 x bet win in total, but the bonus rounds land very quickly.
From what we saw this game seems more like a low to mid variance game, rather than a high volatile slot which usually eats balance very fast. Our balance was constantly rising and the payouts didn’t seem affected even while playing on high bets. In the end we were in a decent plus so we can definitely recommend this game. Very fun to play with decent payouts and a potential to hit big.
