Giant Gems is the latest video pokie game we had a chance to play coming from NextGen Gaming. We were surprised by the overall game design and the fact that it is like no other game we played before. The animations and visual effects are on a decent level but we expected more from a luxurious looking game like this one.
The main symbols in the game are precious stones of all kinds which can land on any one of the 10 active pay lines. The symbols pay regardless of the starting reel just as long as there are 3 of them in a string on an active pay line. There are no wild, bonus or scatter symbols and no classic bonus feature.
The only feature available is the Fortunate Spins Feature. Here you have 5 levels in total which can be activated for a total bet of $1. This removes the standard low paying card symbols from the reels and adds higher paying diamonds in their position. With every bet level you also activate one Giant Gem symbol.
This symbol can land to cover the 3 central reels as one big symbol and can award prizes from 10 to 50 x bet. The maximum pay out possible in a single spin in Giant Gems is 5000 coins or 500 x total bet for 5 ruby symbols on an active pay line.
What We love
We love the fact that Giant Gems is different than most other video pokie games. Most new game releases are simply clones of older pokies with a bit of makeup, so it’s always a great feeling to try something new.
We also like how the symbols pay in a winning pay line. The Fortunate Spins feature is also interesting and increases the overall payouts in the game.

What we Do not Like
We can say that we don’t like the payout the Giant Gem symbols have. With a $1 total bet for all levels activated in the Fortunate Spins we expected to see at least a 100 x bet payout for the highest paying gem stone. This way the biggest payout possible is only from the 5 of a kind ruby symbols combination, which seems very hard to get.
Worth Playing?
If you are looking for an unusual and interesting game to try, we can definitely recommend Giant Gems. The game play is fast and dynamic, with often small to medium wins and you can play a big number of spins even with a limited bankroll. The only way to play this game is with the Fortunate Spins level at maximum, because that’s the only way to get some decent wins.
The biggest payout in the game of 500 x bet is almost an impossible win to get, but you can boost your bankroll for a decent amount with a little bit of luck.
The Giant Gem symbols tend to come often awarding wins of mostly 30 x bet, but even without them your balance doesn’t drop too much. If you are chasing for some 100-200 x bet win to increase your balance you can try Giant Gems, but we wouldn’t recommend playing it to win big.
