Released the 10th of December 2015, Wizard of Gems is a magical themed pokies from Swedish game developers Play’n GO. It is a new addition to their 50 or so titles, renowned for their colourful quirky gameplay and good pay back percentages. The symbols, are for the most part gems in this pokies and there is a Wild, Book of Spells symbol. Wizard of Gems is a drop down pokies game, meaning the symbols in the winning lines break up and new symbols drop down to replace them.
What We Like
Wizards of Gems, is a fun, cheerful, bright and colourful game. The animations are great and the cheeky wizard on the side of the interface, adds some light hearted entertainment to the game. We like the slow falling leaf animations and how the symbols appear to be resting on one another.
The drop down symbols game play, is a nice break from the more conventional spinning reels pokies. There are lots of little wins in this game. If you are lucky enough to unlock the multiplying feature, it translates these into lots of big wins. 20 pay lines is more than sufficient for a drop down slot and you should expect a win at least once every three spins. There are also a wide variety of bets a player can place, although there is no option to adjust the coins value. Free spins are free, so it is hard to not like that.
What We Do not Like
This game chews through your bank roll. While there are lots of little wins, big wins require the multiplier features and a symbol of high value. These two events do not occur in tandem very often. The problem is that the symbols have low values.
The highest five in a row in the Red Heart gem and without a multiplier this only awards you 25.00 credits. It takes constant little wins to break even on your bets and if you bet high, we can guarantee you that your winning will almost always fall short of your bet. The free spins feature, requires three stars to land on the reels. It unfortunately only happens once in a blue moon.
Maybe we were just unlucky but we found that even when we managed three to five wins per spin we were still watching a declining bankroll.
Is This Game Worth Playing?
Not really, it is a bit of a costly endeavour. The graphics and animations are pretty and it is themed and designed perfectly. But this game is never going to secure you that big win, which so many other online pokies are promising. We would recommend it to a beginner player.
If you only want to place small bets and have the patience of a saint, it will hold your bankroll steady and you will profit. But as soon as you place a large bet, the winnings won’t match it and you are just throwing money away.
